A classic collection of iconic British cars is taking centre stage at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, thanks to a new £550,000 mezzanine floor built by automotive specialist Adonis Construction.
The Midlands-based construction firm, which works with some of the world’s leading car manufacturers including BMW, Audi and Ford, was tasked with delivering one of the main elements of a lottery-funded £1.7 million facelift at the Heritage Motor Centre: a 4,500q ft mezzanine floor in just 14 weeks.
Designed to provide panoramic views over the world’s largest collection of historic British cars, the mezzanine floor is also being used to display some of the most iconic examples from British motoring history, including classic brands such as Mini, Austin and Land Rover.
Julie Tew, Managing Director of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust said, “The new mezzanine floor area has had a dramatic impact on the look and feel of the museum and we’re absolutely delighted with the results.
“As well as creating additional exhibition space, it enables visitors to get a real feel for our collection and it fits perfectly with our strategy of making the museum accessible to all.
“Throughout the build process, Adonis impressed us with their professional approach and commitment to customer service. They’ve done a great job and we’re confident the results will appeal to visitors.”
The museum’s new look will be unveiled at the end of May. As well as the mezzanine floor area, visitors will be able to enjoy three new interactive exhibitions focusing on the British motor industry and the emphasis is firmly on fun for all the family.
Terry Alltree, Project Manager for Adonis Construction said: “We are proud to have been associated with this project and it’s exciting to think we’ve helped to create something that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
“As one of the market leaders in the design and build of motor dealerships, it was great to work on a project involving classic cars and we hope this will be the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the Heritage Motor Centre.”
With its headquarters in the Black Country, Adonis Construction has completed over 250 dealerships for the world’s top car manufacturers and major dealer groups worldwide.
Over half of its £40million turnover comes from the automotive industry and the company also specialises in education, emergency services, healthcare, local authority and commercial projects.
