ADONIS DELIVERS £2 MILLION VISITOR CENTRE FOR KINGSPAN
14.02.07
Midlands-based construction specialist Adonis Construction has completed a state-of-the-art visitor centre for Kingspan Insulated Panels, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high quality insulated roof, wall and façade systems for the construction industry.
The £2 million visitor centre in Holywell, north east Wales, has been designed to showcase Kingspan’s products and offer a base for training and education on construction related issues.
Delivered in 34 weeks, the 6,000 sq ft building was the brainchild of Sheffield-based Architects HLM. The complex nature of the project meant Adonis not only had to work closely with this firm, but also a number of other partners including Capita Symonds (project managers), Ove Arup and Partners (design and business consultancy) and Pell Frischmann (structural engineers).
Sustainability was a key issue and the challenge was to create a building that combined Kingspan’s energy efficient products with the latest environmental technologies.
Adonis installed a wind turbine, photovoltaic cells and solar panels to produce environmentally friendly electricity. The company also introduced an innovative grey water system which collects rain water and reuses it to flush the building’s toilets.
“This was an extremely challenging project and the team invested considerable time and effort in delivering a landmark building that demonstrates sustainable construction,” said Neville Clements, managing director of Adonis Construction.
“Our team has effectively integrated cutting edge technology with renewable energy resources and we’re confident this building will stand the test of time. We’re proud to have been associated with this project and look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Kingspan.”
As well as introducing some of the latest environmental technologies, Adonis also installed a range of Kingspan’s own products to further enhance the building’s environmental credentials.
Four different thermally efficient Kingspan Insulated Panel Systems were used on the centre – X-Dek®, Kingzip®, Lo-Pitch roof panels and the unique, completely smooth Optimo™ wall panels. The X-dek® panel also featured in the landscaping at the front of the new centre, where it was used to demonstrate its load bearing potential by providing the base for a green roof.
Andy Patel, Divisional Technical Manager from Kingspan Insulated Panels said: “At Kingspan Insulated Panels we take our leading position seriously in terms of optimising the sustainability of our products and the way in which we conduct our business. Training and the sharing of expertise are key elements in raising awareness and achieving best performance. All of these aspects are epitomised by the new, energy efficient visitor centre. We are also dedicated to developing strong relationships with contractors, and the way we were able to work with Adonis on this project is a good example of how well it can work.”
