HONORARY DEGREE FOR CONSTRUCTION CHAMPION

Flags are flying at leading Midlands-based contractor Adonis Construction after the firm’s MD was presented with an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton in recognition of his services to the construction industry.
Temporarily swapping bricks and mortar for a mortarboard and gown, Adonis’ managing director, Neville Clements, was awarded the title of Master of Technology by Professor Olomolaiye, Dean of the School of Engineering and the Built Environment at Wolverhampton University.
According to Professor Olomolaiye, the title acknowledges Mr Clements’ commitment to quality construction and his efforts to promote the industry as a rewarding career choice,
“We regard Mr Clements as a Black Country champion for small and medium sized construction firms and he has been instrumental in helping us develop our approach to attracting young people into the construction sector.
“The conferment of an honorary degree is our way of recognising the important contribution he has already made to the industry and we’re confident he will continue to be an ambassador for construction in both the Midlands and beyond.”
Mr Clements decided to pursue a career in construction after leaving school at 15. Despite having no formal qualifications, he secured employment with two Midlands-based building firms and in 1978 he set up Adonis Construction.
Since then, Kingswinford based Adonis has gone from strength to strength.
In its last financial year, the company saw its turnover rise by 20% to over £40million, specialising in motor trade, education, emergency services, healthcare, local authority and commercial projects.
Adonis currently employs 100 people and is committed to recruiting and retaining the best talent. It places a strong emphasis on education and training and actively supports staff looking to enhance their skills and qualifications.
Hot on the heels of Mr Clements’ degree success, Adonis’ IT co-ordinator and part-time student, Ian Cotterill, was awarded a BSc – also from the University of Wolverhampton – in Business Information Systems.
“Adonis supported me throughout my degree course and they gave me the chance to put theory into practice. Thanks to them, five years hard work has now paid off and the business is reaping the benefits of workplace training.”
