Hundreds of Staffordshire schoolchildren are to benefit from a new school, thanks to Adonis Construction, one of the Midlands’ leading contractors.

The Kingswinford company has completed the new St Giles and St George Primary School in Newcastle under Lyme, a £3 million project for Staffordshire County Council which saw children and staff move from their cramped old Victorian school to a new, purpose built facility in Orme Road.

The new school was recently opened by Councillor Carol Dean in a ceremony attended by the Bishop of Stafford, the Very Reverend Gordon Mursell, and the Mayor of Newcastle under Lyme, Councillor Colin Brooks.

Designed for modern learning, the school comprises seven classrooms, a nursery, kitchen, hall and administration facilities.  A circular room at one end of the school doubles up as a library and group music room, while a community room is used for meetings and before and after-school activities.

Underfloor heating for the hall, nursery and library and a soft-top playground for the nursery children add to the school’s new-found comfort, whilst wireless internet connections and interactive whiteboards complete the 21st century transformation.

Headteacher Lynn Evans is delighted with the new premises.   She said: “Our new school is beautiful, bright and spacious both indoors and outdoors and really helps us deliver the modern curriculum.”

“The courtyard design means that the children have easy access to the outdoors and we can build the environment and ecology into our daily learning.

“The wireless IT facilities make the place much cleaner and safer, too.  It’s a great new school which the children and teachers all love.”

Adonis Construction is building a reputation for high quality building in the education sector, with recent projects including an Early Excellence Centre at Bilston Nursery School in the Black Country, and extension projects worth £1.3 million for Redhill School in Stourbridge and £1.2 million for Goldthorn Primary School in Wolverhampton.

“As a company we’re committed to safety, quality and best value,” said Adonis managing director Neville Clements. “It’s an ethos which is winning us a lot of respect with public sector clients.

“As St Giles and St George school shows, high quality building design and construction can make a real difference to the lives of our customers, whatever their age.”
