Greenoaks’ vision was a friendly and welcoming atmosphere which offered the highest quality facilities throughout. This was to be contained within an inspirational building to showcase their prestigious brand. The centre piece of the building is the cylindrical customer service suite, now trademark of a Mercedes-Benz dealership. This included a second floor viewing platform and glass roof to aid a natural source of daylight.
The Greenoaks vision, however, was challenged by a relatively small and heavily sloping site. To overcome this, a semi-subterranean workshop and roof-top car park was designed to maximise the use of land available without compromising on the overall impact the building needed to give.
The workshop was built approximately 1 metre below ground level at the rear of the main showroom, with an open glass window creating a customer viewing platform. Its key feature was to include an interactive MoT/Service test lane which simulates a car in motion, enabling technicians to more easily identify faults and discuss any concerns with the customer direct.
Location is often the key to any business and the London Road site takes full advantage of a relatively small and heavily sloping site, ensuring ample parking and forecourt viewing for the rapidly expanding Mercedes-Benz range.
